Contemplating divorce is a difficult and very emotional process. If you are thinking about
filing for divorce, schedule a free initial consultation to meet with us and we will listen to
you in a confidential and professional atmosphere. Based on what you tell us we will be
able to advise you of your options. Should you conclude that a divorce is neccesary, it is
very important to seek the advice of an experienced family law attorney.
Your divorce will begin by filing a Summons and a Petition for Dissolution of Marriage
action in Superior Court. After the filing of these actions there is a mandatory wait period
of 90 days after the date the action is filed. During this time you may choose to begin
work on negotiating with your spouse to come to an agreed resolution. If you are able to
establish an agreed resolution it will be entered with the court after the 90 days has
expired and your divorce is finalized without a need for trial.
The current trend in family law is to use Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) which allows
for the resolution of conflict without going to trial and includes mediation and Collaborative
Law. If you choose the ADR process, the Law Offices of G. Parker Reich are committed to
help you reach the most amicable resolution possible through effective negotiation. We
also understand that this is not always feasible and the ADR process is not appropriate
for every divorcing couple, so we provide aggressive representation in the courtroom if
required.
Here are some of the basic issues that must be resolved in a dissolution of marriage:
